Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Iran’s Supreme Leader fully backs President Admadinejad’s push for Nuclear Weapons

Eighteen days before parliamentary elections to the majlis, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for the first time used his full power, and influence and adamantly stood behind his country’s nuclear program and President Ahmadinejad. The Ayatollah Clearly boasted that the United States had fail to halt their Nuclear program by sanctions or military action. He was firm, and concise in his address.

On February 26th the Ayatollah told Iranian Officials

“One example of an progress by the Islamic organism has been the nuclear matter, in which the Iranian nation has won a great victory.” For the first time, he echoed Admadinejad’s obstinate position and praised his responsibility in advancing the nuclear matter as “outstanding.”

In my last article regarding the findings of the Official Nuclear Watch-dogs where they seriously question Iran’s diverting of the nuclear program to one of weaponry, Khamenei backed the hard-line positions taken by the president and the Revolutionary Guards and their race for a nuclear bomb and nuclear delivery systems, mainly missiles.

Obviously hammering the US and Israel, the Ayatollah said: “Those people who used to say Iran’s nuclear movement must be dismantled are now saying we are ready to allow your advances, on condition that it will not continue for an indefinite period. This was achieved by determination.”

The ayatollah was referring crookedly to certain Western powers including Germany which have subtly engaged Tehran for a deal to acknowledge Iran’s nuclear achievements provided it put its military option on hold for a period of years.

Khamenei treated this compromise, which would leave the Islamic Republic free to summon its option at will, as a major victory over the West.” He was undoubtedly crowing over Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s call for a 3rd round of sanctions and Ehud Olmert’s trust on the international community.

Khamenei’s generous praise for the president ahead of the majlis vote was a setback for the speculation held by US and Israeli policy makers that the Ayatollah and his faction are more open to reason than Ahmadinejad and, if confronted with a military showdown with the US and Israel, they would prefer to deal. Khamenei’s oratory Tuesday put paid to this false impression.

In fact, domestically, his latest statement will strengthen the radical president’s parliamentary support in the March 18 election, as well as his call to Annihilate Israel.
