The tragedy of missing persons, children and adults in this country is beyond out of control
There was a study performed by the Center for Missing Adults that concluded that in 1980 there were on an annual basis 150,000 persons that went missing. Current studies by the same organization have revealed that in 2007 that number has risen to an astonishing 859,000. 50,000 of these are adults. The study further shows that four out of ten are black and white males; three out of ten are females both black, and white, and the remaining three are Latino or Asian. It is difficult to have an accurate count on the Latino accounts because of immigrations laws.
Obviously this has become a problem that is certainly out of beyond control.
There is presently no laws in place that mandate Law Enforcement to act in any prescribed fashion. As history has proven what happen is they require at least a seventy two hour period to pass before they enter that person into NCIC . We are speaking of adults here. Once the seventy two hours have passed then is has been proven to be a feat even then to get their loved one entered into the NCIC system. After that prescribed period of time they are then treated as missing persons. Now consider this. If you have a loved one, and you know their habits, and traits you know when they are acting or behaving out of character. It would appear to me that if a family will go to the police to report a missing person there is certainly something out of the ordinary going on with the person they are reporting.
Many families after receiving little or no support from local law enforcement are afraid to raise a stink in fear of the police pulling back any support they are supplying as little as it may be. There was even one case reported to be where the police told the mother of a missing person that she had better not step foot back in their office unless she could lay her son’s dead body on their desk. This actually happen, and is on a live interview I did. This interview of course caused me great problems; being banned from a local law enforcement website, and ridicule, and attack on my character from family and friends of law enforcement. This is just a classic example of shooting the messenger.
There is currently a Bill, HR BILL 423 sitting in the Congress that was passed over last time, and is nearing being passed over again. It simply supplies four million dollars to assist 7-9 different functions to maintain data on missing persons. It does not one thing to mandate procedures in handling missing adults. The four million dollars will barely cover the expense of maintaining our countries only organization (Center for Missing Adults much less to fund the other multitude of things they have prescribed it to accomplish. I have on my website a National petition that can be accomplished in seconds to ask them to move on HR Bill 423. We then need to ensure that there is legislation put in place that will mandate Law Enforcement to have set procedures to deal with missing adults immediately. I know we have many pressing issues that our elected official has to deal with. I must add I was not impressed by the 110 th Congress, They did however move to cut their work week to a 4 day week. Odd is it not. Your comments eagerly requested. You will find this petition on my site on the left side under pages. Just go there, and you will see the full bill. Throughout the bill are links to carry you to the National Petition. This is at least a start.
